More babies born out of wedlock than in, for first time

The number of babies born to mothers who are not married or in a civil partnership has surpassed those whose mothers are for the first time since records began, according to data released yesterday.
The Office for National Statistics, which started recording the numbers in 1845, showed that there were 320,713 live births registered outside a marriage or civil partnership last year.
