Cheating is no ground for divorce, Chinese court declares

A Chinese court has suggested that infidelity is insufficient reason for divorce, prompting heated debate across the country.

The high court of Shandong, on the east coast, said in an article posted yesterday that an affair was not a “stable extramarital relation” and thus provided no ground for a divorce request. “The latest attitude on divorce by the law is to prevent frivolous dissolutions,” read the article, which was later removed after public backlash.
