We are delighted to announce the winners of the Financial Remedies Awards 2025.
For our inaugural year, we received an exceptional number of entries from across the field of financial remedies, each one showcasing innovation, integrity, and excellence.
Winners were announced during a drinks ceremony following the Financial Remedies Conference 2025. Thank you to those who joined us for the awards. The awards were a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate and recognise the incredible achievements of each of the winners.
Young Barrister of the Year
This award is generously sponsored by QEB chambers represented at the awards by their joint head of chambers Katie Cowton KC and James Ewins KC
Young Barrister of the Year was awarded to Calum Smith, 1 Hare Court.
The Young Barrister of the Year category recognises an emerging talent who is already making waves in the field of financial remedies. Whether through standout contributions to key cases, sharp legal thinking, or a strong commitment to pro bono work. These categories aim to highlight individuals that demonstrate exceptional promise early in their career.
Here's what the judges had to say:
"The winner of this award has been praised for his judgment and skill exceeding his call. The evidence showed great legal knowledge, drafting and advocacy skills, and the ability to provide key case strategy.
Described as dynamic and brilliant, he has been instructed in proceedings under Part III, in complex proceedings involving corporate structure in offshore jurisdictions, and in two complex reported cases in the last 12 months.
He has delivered technical training, in particular on how short marriages and financial remedies are dealt with, and regularly contributes to financial remedy commentary.
He has also undertaken significant pro bono work, including successfully representing a wife in complex cross-jurisdictional proceedings, as well as completing a further 100 hours in a local law clinic, for which he was recognised by the Mayor of Greenwich."
Calum Smith was not able to attend the awards ceremony but to accept his award but this was accepted in his honour by Steve McCrone, 1 Hare Court.
